I paint to convey the contradictions I see in daily life: emotional, psychological, environmental. Color and line work together, yet they emerge as opposites to what I know about the reality of place.
The seductiveness of color is in juxtaposition to the weight of the forms. The forms are sometimes projectiles, and at other times pieces that have broken off from their anchors. They may be grounded or float, but I always want them to defy logic, to provoke, to agitate in the world of rules and conformity.
Whether the work is in oil, acrylic, colored or graphite pencil, or paper collage, I am searching for movement the eye will trace. At first, the viewer’s eyes may observe color and discover movement through, within, and around the forms. Just as a poem reveals its meaning through repeated readings, the painting may reveal things through repeated viewings that stir, induce, inspire, or bring the viewer to a place that is mysterious, precarious, or perhaps even comforting.
